The limit
The subtitle holds 30 characters. It appears under the title on the product page and in search, and Apple indexes it.
Use it for the phrase the title did not have room for. Repeating the title wastes the field.
Is the subtitle the same as the Google Play short description?
No. The Play short description holds 80 characters and plays a different role on the store page.
